Gorgeous Autumn Color

November 25th, 2009

Autumn is such a pretty time of the year.  Hard to imagine that all those green leaves of summer can turn into such vibrant colors of autumn.

Aren’t these leaves just gorgeous!

I’m Back …

November 24th, 2009

I  hope everyone has had a nice fall.  The month of October here was miserable with mostly rain every day and even some snow flurries danced in the sky.  Once we turned the calendar to November we started having much nicer weather.  Indian summer like days greeted us most of the time.  Thank goodness for that nice weather for it allowed fall harvest to be completed by most of the farmers.   I plan on updating the blog more often and stay tuned for there are some really exciting happenings coming in the next few months.  Take care all and have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

Sorry For Being Absent

July 13th, 2009

In the coming weeks I will be back to blogging and fill you in on all that has been happening in my corner of the world. The month of June ended up being a very tough one for us….we lost our 11 month old puppy, Hunter. More about that coming up. So check back and see what’s been happening. Hope all of you are having a wonderful summer. It seems to be more fall like here most of the time. Take care all.

Remembering ….

May 30th, 2009

I love to visit cemeteries during Memorial Day weekend.  Seeing all of the flags waving in the wind and all the decorated graves.  So much color is brought to an otherwise muted scene.  It is amazing when you really start to look at how much detail and artistry has gone into some of the gravestone markers.  At first glance one thinks that it has to be a fairly recent stone, but upon further inspection you see that it dates back into the 1800s.

Paying respect and honoring all those who have served and are serving our country so we may enjoy “freedom”.

Look at all the detail that went into this …. Then look at the dates.

This monument states that it is for the volunteer fire department dated 1901.  It towered over any other headstones close to it.

This beautiful swan was enjoying the nice weather over the weekend as well.  At his feet is a slice of bread that someone had given him.  Looks as if he is going to save it for later.

The reflections of the flags help remind us what “Memorial Day” is all about.

Remembering A Year Ago …

May 24th, 2009

pb_day-after

This Memorial Day weekend brings back lots of mixed emotions for residents of  Iowa.  Last year at this time, an EF5 tornado ripped through parts of Parkersburg and surrounding areas leaving a horrendous path of debris and destruction.   I had an opportunity to walk through the town just a  day after with camera in hand and captured some rather compelling images.  I have reposted these photos as the one year anniversary of this tragedy approaches this weekend.   To view more images, go to the “blogroll”  and you will see a link entitled Parkersburg – The Day After.   Not only I have I captured these images digitally but they are permantly etched in my mind.

Welcomed Signs of Spring

May 21st, 2009

While out enjoying the nice warm sunny weather we are finally getting, I found some of my favorite things that spring has to offer.

Golden Sunrise

Sunrise

What a beautiful sight to wake up to.  Certainly makes getting up early easier when you experience something like this.

American Goldfinch

American Goldfinch

He seems to be enjoying himself.  I just love their bright yellow color and they sing so pretty as well.

Cardinal

Cardinal

Finally…I was able to get a photograph of this elusive little guy.  He would sing from the top of the tree at me, but would not even think about getting close to me.  But I got “sneaky” and managed to get at least one image of him.

Lilacs

Lilacs

Oh such a sweet fragrance!  They never seem to last long enough.
